Unlimited Potential Computer Training

In April 2005, HQ (in partnership with the Smith Family & Microsoft) delivered the Unlimited Potential computer training program. This program delivers computer training to those who would otherwise not have access to computers or the internet. Microsoft donate the software licenses for use during the course and the provider (HQ in this case) supply trainers.

The program works in a very close knit, hands on environment. It is definitely not a "classroom" type learning situation. Smith Family prefer a 1:5 trainer:participant ratio at all times, or lower. This allows for new users to learn about computers and be mentored by the trainers without being left behind or being daunted by a big group environment.

Work for the Dole Projects

In the early part of 2003, HQ secured funding to develop and deliver training opportunities that would pave the way for a new collaborative partnership. The idea for the project (which later became known as Gateway), was based on offering accredited training to unemployed people that are engaged on a Work for the Dole project.

Funded by the Department of Education and Training and auspiced by Central TAFE, Headquarters developed three separate WFTD projects and aligned each of them with an accredited training package. After negotiations with our partners at the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, we contracted with Communicare (one of our Community Work Co-ordinators) to deliver the three projects.

HQ is currently running WEP projects in the areas of IT, Multimedia & Basic Carpentry. The places for these projects are supplied by Mission Australia, Communicare & The Gowrie. Participants usually spend up to 2 days a week in their chosen field, being trained and gaining skills which will help them to be more employable.
