Skate Coaches

The Department of Sport and Recreation and YMCA HQ are working together to enhance the professional status of skateboarding as a sport. A crucial component of this partnership is to develop skateboarding coaches through Skateboarding Australia’s national training program.
In working to improve West Australian skateboarding by generating skilled and qualified coaches, YMCA HQ is supporting the sport today, and promoting its growth whilst cementing its future.
The coaching program serves to create a strong foundation of experienced and reliable coaches, the pool of which increases every year and delivers a greater scope of professionalism to skateboarding. Once accredited, YMCA HQ can utilise coaches in numerous activities such as workshops, in which coaches can directly apply their qualification.
Another clear outcome of the program is to advance junior skateboarding by encouraging youth to become involved and develop their skills concurrently with coaches. It’s a positive fusion of learning, enjoyment and healthy activity that’s accessible to everyone.
YMCA HQ, in conjunction with Skateboarding Australia, generally runs the skate coach accreditation course on an annual basis. Accredited coaches are registered with the Australian Sports Commission, earning a nationally recognised qualification which is valid for four years.
YMCA is the only organisation to run these nationally certified courses in Western Australia.
